White Lion - Documentary

Status

In Progress

This is the incredible story of M Dot R, a white, working class man from the Isle of Sheppey who speaks and performs in Jamaican Patois. It is the story of his life-changing obsession with a vibrant music scene born out of Caribbean culture.

White Lion is an intelligent and delicately humorous documentary about this extravagant, controversial and contradictory character and his passionate fight to find his place in the world. It's a story of poverty, performance, viral success, online abuse as well as being part of a wider conversation about the unstable nature of cultural identity.

This film explores identity politics, especially the complex topic of cultural appropriation. All of this discussion lives alongside the story of M Dot R's undeniable genuine passion for a culture to which he has no direct connection.

This project is currently in post production aimed for 2022 release.
